To promote higher education in an area which is economically & educationally backward and located at a distance of 26 km from district town of Purulia is perhaps not an easy task. since last two decades the people of Joypur has been sincerely realizing the urgent need of setting up a degree college in the area to fulfill the demands of the pupils and lovers of aducation all around. in the long run some benevolent and degnified persons, highl;y interested in education, put their heads together in the year 2006 and formed an NGO named Garhjoypur Bikramjeet Goswami Higher Education Society with a view to setting up a college at Joypur. Late Bijoy Krishna Goswami, the ex-Principal of Anand College, Hazaribag and originally an inhabitant of Joypur, donated genorously 8.35 acres of land and cash amounting Rs. Three Lakhs for establishment of this college in fond memory of his beloved son, Bikramjeet Goswami who died a premature death. With the above motto, the newly formed NGO moved ahead for necessary permission and affiliation of this college. The West Bengal State Council of Higher Education made an inspection in view of the requisition on 01.08.2009 regarding land and other related matters and was satisfied to grant approval. Higher Education Department, Govt. of West Bengal issued the order of establishment on 17.08.2009. consequently a team was sent by the University of Burdwan for inspection and on the basis of their report affiliation was granted to the proposed college on 25.08.2009. The UGC tendered recognition of the the college under section 2(f) & 12 (B) of the UGC Act, 1956 on 22.03.2019.
This college has infrastructural and man power deficiency. Inspite of many deficiencies it is striding ahead with brilliant and bright, passionate and vibrant students and a host of bold, talented, intuitive and motivated young teachers . I feel proud of our students and teachers.
